CPI demands probe into alleged violations

Votes polled in favour of its candidate are votes in support of Left parties’ alternative policies

Chennai: CPI senior leader and candidate C. Mahendran who unsuccessfully contested against AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday demanded a transparent probe into the alleged irregularities and violations.

“We demand a transparent probe into the bypoll processes and appropriate action based on it,” he said. Alleging that there were several irregularities, he said the ruling AIADMK violated election laws, polled bogus votes and captured the booths to emerge victorious in the RK Nagar bypoll. “The AIADMK should not have committed these violations... let authorities do a probe, even examine these cameras (installed in polling stations)... truth will come out and these will be lessons for the public too,” he said.

Left parties said that the votes polled in favour of its common candidate C. Mahendran are the votes in support of Left parties’ alternative policies.Thanking those people who voted for their candidate, G. Ramakrishnan and R. Mutharasan, state secretaries of CPI (M) and CPI said that the Left parties would be acting more diligently to protect the welfare of the state people.

“The election commission which should act unbiased remained a mute spectator to the polling of bogus votes and polling of more than 100 per cent of the total votes in a booth shows the neutrality of the commission,” Left parties said in a joint statement.
