Karnataka: New bill tabled to regulate quota, fee structure in private colleges

The bill would be a legal frame work which would regulate the quota for students seeking admission through CET

BELAGAVI: The state government introduced an amendment in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, paving the way for mutual agreement under the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulations of Admission and Determination of Fee) Act, 2006.

As per the new amendment, every year the government would have to get into mutual agreement with private professional college management for fixing quota as well as fee structure for students who make the grade through CET.

The bill would be a legal frame work which would regulate the quota for students seeking admission through CET and ensure that they are not fleeced by managements of private professional colleges.

Meanwhile, the government also moved another bill, splitting Bengaluru University into three. The university would continue to have campuses in Jnanbharati with jurisdiction over Vijayanagara, Padmanabhanagar, Bommanahalli, Anekal, Bengaluru South, Yeshwanthpura, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Dasarahalli, Mahalaxmi layout, Govindarajanagar, Magadi, Ramanagara, Kanakapura and Channapatana Assembly constituencies.

Bengaluru Central University, which would have campus at Bengaluru Central College campus would have jurisdiction of Shanthinagar, Byatarayanapura, Yelahanka, Malleswaram, Hebbal, Shivajinagar, Gandhinagar, Chamarajpet, Chickpet, Basavanagudi, BTM layout, Jayanagar and Rajajinagar Assembly constituencies.

The Bengaluru North University would have campus at Jangamakote in Shiddlaghatta taluk with jurisdiction of Srinivasapura, Mulbagal, KGF, Bangarpet, Kolar, Malur, KR Puram, Pulikeshinagar, Sarvagnanagar, CV Ramannagar, Mahadevapura, Gowribidanur, Bagepalli, Chikkaballapur, Chinthamani, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur and Hoskote Assembly constituencies.
