Zoom into the future

Sandalwood actress Kavya Shetty talks about films, modelling, ads and friends in this breezy chat
Even as the Mangaluru beauty awaits the release of her two Kollywood films – AL Vijay’s Idhu Enna Mayam starring Vikram Prabhu and Avam, her Sandalwood flick Vijayaaditya opposite Dhananjaya, and a brief role alongside Golden Star Ganesh in Zoom, Kavya Shetty is excited about her next. The model-turned-actress with an engineering degree in computer science, talks about her Kannada venture, directed by renowned director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar and more.
The renowned director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar who gave several classics including America America, Undu Hoda Kondu Hoda, Hoomale and Amrutadhare is back in action...
This time, he is directing a new venture based on a three decade old literary work, Istakamya. Kavya Shetty, who is set to play one of the lead characters says, “I was super thrilled to hear that Nagathihalli sir felt that I suited one of the characters for his upcoming film (yet to be titled). I have watched all of his films. And this is based on a literary work — a 30-year-old book that is not even available in the market.”
The actress who prefers hitting the gym to yoga to stay fit, shares that the film is based on a relationship and its values, revolving around three characters which are being portrayed by herself, Mayuri (of Krishna Leela fame), and Vijay Suriya of popular tele serial, Agni Sakshi. “Even while sir narrated the character to me, I felt that it was a movie I should not miss being in. Moreover, I just did not want to miss a great learning experience and an opportunity to work with such a great director,” she says.
About her other Kannada film Vijayaaditya, which is taking its own time to hit the screens, she explains that the movie is set in two periods — present and historic, “I have finished the shooting much earlier, as I feature only in the present part of it and the team is busy wrapping up with the graphic works.”
The actress who does not regret taking up acting despite faring well in studies says, “In reality, an actor’s profession is short lived, especially for the lead actresses, and someday an alternative becomes inevitable. Once an actor, it becomes difficult to adjust to any 9 to 5 job. Working in a far more creative field and state of mind is exciting and fun.”
While she admits that her busy schedule does keep her away from her closed ones at times, her close friends from her school are used to it now and support her.
“Recently, my friends and I went to Sri Lanka to attend a friend’s wedding. We had a lot of fun,” says Kavya, adding that she likes to swim, read, and travel when she faces boredom. When not shooting for a film, her modelling gigs in ads keep her busy. Before she signs off, she says that she has no qualms about acting alongside a debutant from the small screen, as he is quite popular as an actor and good at it too. But most importantly, it’s because the director feels that the chemistry would work wonders on the big screen.
