There have been instances of mobile phone blasts due to overcharging and overheating of the device. In the recent news, an iPhone 6 blast was reported in India. The iPhone user was on a call using his hands free inside his car, when he spotted the iPhone heating up and sparks coming out of it. He immediately threw the phone out of the window, when it exploded on impacting the ground. Investigations are on and there are no further reports on the case.
In another similar case of smartphones blowing up, The Indian Express reported that a man in Surat, named Bhavesh Thummer, suffered severe injuries when his Intex Android smartphone exploded in his shirt pocket. The 30-year-old diamond polisher has suffered injuries on his chest, left eye and ear and was rushed to the SMIMER hospital in Surat.

There has been no further information about how the incident took place and if the handset was repaired/altered in any way or if the smartphone was using a third-party battery instead of the original. The police have registered a case and investigations are being carried on.
