Google Maps add 12 Indian cities for real time traffic updates

The traffic update feature now covers 34 cities in India

New Delhi: Google has added 12 more Indian cities, including Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore and Bhopal, to its mapping service to provide real-time traffic information. "We hope that this new real-time traffic information for 12 cities and all national highways will help drivers across the country find the best routes to their destinations," Google Director for Program Management Suren Ruhela said in a statement.

The other cities that have been updated on Google Maps are Ludhiana, Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, Kochi, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore and Surat. This traffic feature, available on both mobile and desktop versions of Google Maps, now covers 34 cities in India. Google Maps' traffic feature shows commuters routes mapped out in different colours, indicating the different speed of traffic on those roads.

Earlier this year, Google launched voice-guided navigation instructions in the Hindi and Indian accented English language on Google Maps for mobile, as well as the integration of Indian Railways schedule information within Google Transit.
