National Green Tribunal fiat not given to expert

Constitution of committee to study dewatering of Hussainsagar lake

Hyderabad: The National Green Tribunal’s order regarding the constitution of an expert committee to study the dewatering of Hussainsagar is facing a problem.

The NGT had appointed two people. One of them was Prof. Dr S. Mohan, who was said to be the director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR).

But the professor is now with IIT-Madras. When contacted the professor said he had not received the NGT orders to inspect Huss-ainsagar. The NGT order of May 29 had sought a report on July 10.

On May 29, the NGT named a team consisting of NITTTR director Prof. Dr S. Mohan and Karnataka HC government pleader Devaraj Ashok to study the dewatering of Hussainsagar.

The NGT also ordered an initial remuneration of '50,000 to the team payable by the TS government and GHMC.

Following the NGT order Prof. Dr S. Mohan was contacted on June 1 through mail. But there was no response from him. Later, it was found that Prof. Dr S. Mohan had quit NITTTR in September 2014 (nine months before the NGT order).

Prof. Mohan is now with IIT-Madras. "The professor was again contacted by an advocate in Chennai and it was found that as on June 25 the NGT order to inspect Hussainsagar has not reached him. The other member Devaraj Ashok who received the order tried to contact Prof. Mohan but he was unavailable. The team has to submit the report by July 10 and till date they have not reached the city," said a member of the Save Our Urban Lakes.
