C Mahendran alleged capture of polling booths and bogus voting by AIADMK partymen

Chennai: CPI candidate C. Mahendran on Saturday alleged widespread capture of polling booths and bogus voting by the ruling AIADMK partymen in the Dr Radhakrishna Nagar bypoll. “We have given a written complaint to the election commission seeking repoll in 22 polling booths,” he told Deccan Chronicle. He alleged that the ruling party men forced his party’s booth agents out and captured the booths in the evening.

Mahendran said that till 3 pm, 50 per cent of votes were polled.“With many political parties including DMK boycotting the polls, the ruling party men went on a spree polling the bogus votes,” he said. Pointing out that the bogus voting in the 143 polling booth, he said that he himself had witnessed voters coming to the booth were being sent back saying that their voters were already polled.
“We have listed out the bogus votes. We will handover to the commission,” he said.

Lingamma, a 75-year-old woman, said that she had gone to the polling booth to vote. “The officials told me that my vote was already polled,” she lamented. Mahendran said that Lingamma was not allowed to vote. “There is a widespread bogus voting happened in the booths,” he said.On the complaint from the communist, chief electoral officer Sandeep Saxena said that the Chennai collector was directed to immediately rush to the polling station number 194 to 196 on AE Koil Street. After verification, it was informed that no such incident took place in those three booths, he said.
