Ban on sand mining till rains end in Muvattupuzha

The council has directed the mining and geology department to issue orders stop mining till the end of monsoon

KOCHI: The district development council has decided to impose a ban on mining of sand in district till the end of the rainy season. The decision was taken in the wake of the landslide at Velloorkunnu in Muvattupuzha posing a threat to the water tank of the Kerala Water Authority.

The council has directed the mining and geology department to issue orders stop mining till the end of monsoon.

On controlling the menace of stray dog, collector M.G. Rajamanickam said that local bodies and animal husbandry department needed to initiate action to this regard.

“If animal lovers are ready to adopt two dogs the issue can be resolved,” he said. The animal husbandry department should develop a scheme for encouraging such adoptions, he added.
