Chennai: A group of women representing the National Federation of Indian Women, CPI’s women wing, on Friday ransacked a licensed arrack shop being run by brother of a ruling party MLA in Goundapalyam in Puducherry.

The ransacking incident happened at around 11 am after nearly two hours of protest by the women in front of the shop. The incident happened as government failed to shift the shop despite repeated request from the Left groups.

The protesters became violent when they came to know that the government, ignoring their pleas, was going to auction the shop online again. The women entered the shop, broke arrack bottles, glasses and other utensils. They carried arrack cans out and poured the contents on the road. The police reached the spot only after the group had ransacked the shop.
