Sajid Nadiadwala in talks of purchasing Mumbai's iconic Filmistan Studio

If the deal comes through, the director could be the new owner of the five acre plot

Mumbai: ‘Kick; director Sajid Nadiadwala has set his sites on one of Mumbai's oldest and iconic studios, Filmistan Studio. According to a report, the Bollywood producer is eager to buy the studio from its present owner, Anil Kumar Tolaram Jalan. If the deal comes through, Sajid could be the new owner of the five acre Goregaon plot in Mumbai.
The studio that was founded in 1943 by producer Sashadhar Mukherjee, brotherin-law actor Ashok Kumar, his director friend Gyan Mukherji and Rai Bahadur Chunilal, boasts of seven shooting floors, a temple and garden for outdoor shoots.
The studio that came to came to life in the ‘40s, had some of the biggest blockbusters like Anarkali, Munimji and Paying Guest., Tumsa Nahin Dekha and continued to churn out hits like Shaheed, Shabnam, Sargam and Nagin all through the ‘50s.
Rumours of the studio being put up for sale had been doing the rounds back in 2011, that was until Jalan rubbished those reports. On Saturday, Mumabi Mirror reported that Nadiadwala has now approached Jalan with an offer to buy it.
According to the report, a sourse said "It's Sajid's favourite studio having been the founding ground of one of his much- loved directors Nasir Hussain whose films he's grown up watching. A song, Offo, for his film, 2 States, was shot there. So there's a sentimental value attached to the property. He's been in talks with the owner since the last month-and-a-half and they are at an advanced stage now."
However, Sajid has still to comment or make a publick announcement on the same.
