WhatsApp Desktop: An unofficial WhatsApp client for PC

WhatsApp is presently restricted to your smartphone and a web browser only

These days, sending text messages are history. With the internet now on almost all handsets, texting through the internet is cheaper and efficient. What’s more—you can also send multimedia via chatting applications such as WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, Hike, Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts, and many others. WhatsApp is one of the oldest applications, is the easiest, and highest used chat applications out there. However, WhatsApp is presently available only for use on smartphones and a web browser (via a smartphone). The online version (WhatsApp Web) uses your smartphone to communicate with friends and needs your WhatsApp-enabled smartphone to be online too. There are a few methods to use WhatsApp from your desktop using emulators, but they are tricky and you cannot use the same number for WhatsApp on your smartphone thereafter. So WhatsApp Web is one of the only best methods for the purpose, at present.

A Roman developer, by the name of Alexandru Ro?ianu, has developed a third-party client for using WhatsApp on your desktop. The software is available for free to download and use. The software is nothing but a simple built-in browser, based on Chrome, and runs independently for WhatsApp Web only. The WhatsApp Desktop software is an unofficial client and is available for Windows, Mac and Linux desktops. It is easy to use, simple to install and a great alternative for easy WhatsApp use.

You can download the software from here if you have Windows or from here is you own a Mac. The software is straight-forward—simply install it, and run the application. Once installed, a window will open and you will need to scan the code from your WhatsApp app on your phone. Once done, you can start using WhatsApp from the little standalone, limited featured browser on your desktop. The application features the same options the web module offers.

You may ask why should I install another software when I can do the same with my (already installed) browser. Well, the question seems justified, but it can benefit those who don’t want to open another tab just for WhatsApp. Additionally, the unofficial WhatsApp Desktop software also features an icon in the task bar which pops up notifications when a message arrives. You can minimize the software and tug it away for use when needed, so that it does not cause inconvenience when using a regular browser for other work.

Note: WhatsApp Desktop is an unofficial desktop client for PC and laptops. This is NOT an official product. It is just a wrapper for WhatsApp Web. No affiliation with WhatsApp.
