IIIT courses in demand

Vast infra and campus placements attract students

Anantapur: With many engineering colleges unable to provide campus selections and quality academics, parents from rural are-as prefer IIIT course for their children after SSC.

The reason being that RGUKT had vast infrastructure with international standards and easy access of campus placements with reputed companies. This year, the demand for admissions into the six-year integrated course is heavy according to the candidates.

About 18,677 candidates applied for the available two thousand seats for the first year of IIIT course at Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies in RK Valley Campus of Idupulapaya in Kadapa district and Nuzvid in Krishna district. Sources also said more than 10k applications were received for Basara IIIT for the present academic year.
Basara was also accommodating 1,000 seats.

Chandranna, who passed SSC from a government high school in Madakasira said he was interested in joining IIIT than wait for two more years for engineering graduation. Demand for the IIIT seats is witnessing more because of pass percentage in the SSC results was record-breaking this year. Kadapa DEO K. Prathap Reddy said about 97 per cent of candidates passed and many of them with merit in Kadapa district.

Officials from RK valley said that admission process would be held on July 21 and 22 through interviews for the candidates. “We are planning to begin classes from August 1 for the first year students.” The RGUKT consists of a six- year integrated course after 10th class examination leading to a B.Tech. degree including two- year pre- university course equi-valent to Intermediate with all important branches.

Referring to the employment prospects of graduates of RGUKT (IIITs) it will be comparable to the other world class universities, director Venugopal Reddy observed. Soft skills will provide a strong foundation for national competitive examinations. Most the graduates were absorbed by national companies offering attractive salaries on par with regular B.Tech graduates, sources said. Appropriate placement guidance and awareness programmes will be conducted to prepare the students for private and public sector job opportunities.
