Narendra Singh Tomar gives saving tips

Says modernisation, cost reduction will increase profits
Visakhapatnam: Union Steel Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, who is on a visit to Vizag, reviewed the performance of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) in a meeting with senior officials here on Tuesday. Tomar’s visit gained significance in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to VSP in July to dedicate Plant’s expansion of its capacity to 6.3mtpa to the nation.
Mr Tomar lauded the efforts of workers and officers of RINL in reviving the Plant in record time after Hudhud tragedy last year. While reviewing the progress of modernisation and expansion, the minister expressed concern over time and cost overruns and advised to conduct root cause analysis so that lapse, lack of foresight and other reasons could be pinpointed for avoidance in future.
“The loss of time and money would be more damaging if units are not stabilised after commissioning at the earliest,” he added. Mr Tomar remarked that modernisation, expansion, cost reduction and energy savings must be reflected in profitability. “Visit of Prime Minister will be a proud occasion for all of us and we must make it memorable for times to come,” he said.
RINL CMD P. Madhu-sudan expressed gratefulness to the minister for providing guidance and support as and when required. He assured the minister that quick action will be initiated on his observations. He shared details of RINL vision plan in tune with 300 million tonne target of Union government.
Earlier, the steel minister accompanied by Vizag MP, Dr K. Haribabu, and Ms Urvilla Khati, joint secretary, ministry of steel, planted saplings at the Dedication Park inside the plant to mark the occasion.
Mr Tomar also had a look into major production processes like Coke Oven Battery, Blast Furance-3, Steel Melt Shop-2 and Wire Rod Mill-2 during his Plant visit. RINL officials also apprised the minister of the arrangements being made for the ensuing Prime Minister’s visit to RINL in July.
