Andhra University gets funds for coastal erosion study

The project duration is 3 years
Visakhapatnam : Space Applications Centre(SAC), Ahmadabad has sanctioned a research project of Andhra University on "Application of Satellite and observational data to understand coastal processes responsible for the coastal erosion along the east coast of India."
Prof K. V. S. R. Prasad of the Department of meteorology and oceanography will be the principle investigator of this project. An amount of Rs 22.53 lakhs has been sanctioned by SAC to study coastal erosion in the east coast of India.
The project duration is 3 years and an amount Rs 9 lakhs, for the first phase of the project, has been released by SAC.
Professor Prasad on Tuesday handed over a cheque of Rs 9 lakh and the project sanction letter to Andhra University registrar V. Uma Mahesvar Rao. Prof Uma Maheswar Rao appreciated Prof Prasad for undertaking a society related project. He advised Prof Prasad to give scientific and useful suggestions to control coastal erosion in east coast and also to protect natural environment.
Prof Prasad said that the main objectives of the project are to analyse the coastal dynamics along the east coast of India and identify the root of coastal erosion. The study area comprises of more than 1000 km long coastline of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu . This is a coastline with very complex character, he added.
