Neredmet road in a mess

Board waiting for completion of Krishna Phase III to repair the stretch

Hyderabad: The Neredmet crossroads to Mini Tank Bund – Vinayaknagar stretch was dug up over nine months ago by the Water Board for installation of drinking water pipelines, but the Board is not repairing the road, stating that it can only be restored once the Krishna Phase III – Stage two project is completed, which is likely in 2016.

Over 70,000 vehicles use the road every day and it is the main connectivity between ECIL crossroads and Safilguda.

The Water Board, with a budget of Rs 300 crore, has started installation of a new ring-like tap water pipeline for several areas in the Malkajgiri Assembly constituency.

For this, the Board has dug up 1.25 km from the Neredmet crossroads and the works, being carried out in a phased manner, is likely to be completed only by 2016.

The line connects to the Sainikpuri reservoir. B.T. Srinivas, president of Malkajgiri Resident Welfare Association, said, “This particular stretch falls under the Roads and Buildings department, and was directed by the TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to be handed over to the GHMC; however, so far the municipal corporation has not taken up ownership of all R and B roads. This is also the prime reason that the Water Board contractor is not even leveling the road.”

“A length of 1.25 km has been dug up, there are two major schools in this area and students are finding it hard to travel. Even internal roads have been dug up and four wheeler users find it extremely difficult.”

“As the AOC road is closed, many from Mettuguda take the Malkajgiri stretch to reach Neredmet, and rains have added to their misery. Several minor accidents have occurred. Also, this area is known for commercial activity, the already congested road has been damaged,” said Kingsley Samuel, a resident of A.S. Rao Nagar.

Meanwhile, a Water Board official said, “At certain places the contractor has done the patch work; immediate restoration in terms of road leveling is being done, however, a new road can only be laid once the whole project is completed.”
