Thrissur: Several trees, electric poles and makeshift buildings collapsed in heavy showers accompanied by strong wind in the district on Monday. Power in most parts of the city went off disrupting normal life.
A huge tree near the district collectorate was uprooted and fell on to the nearby tea stall resulting in a traffic snarl there. No casualties were reported.
The storm downed another tree near Kottappuram. Other parts of the district also experienced strong wind resulting in mild mishaps. A tree was reported to have fallen on a govt school here on Pattikad but averted danger.
In Cheruthuruthy, a truss roof of a panchayat owned shopping complex collapsed on to Shoranur-Thrissur road creating a traffic jam till 2 pm. The electricity lines were snapped off at most of the places. An uprooted Banyan tree had crushed two motorists on the road in Thrissur on Thursday.
