Centre sorry after Ram Madhav tweet on Vice President Hamid Ansari

Mr Madhav had questioned V-P’s absence, but apologised later after severe criticism

New Delhi: Even before the Narendra Modi government and the BJP could bask in the success of International Yoga Day, the government had to apologise for BJP leader Ram Madhav’s controversial tweet over Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s absence at Sunday’s event. Mr Madhav’s tweet virtually took the sheen out of the event as the ruling party was accused of playing “divisive” politics.

Amid reports that the government was upset over Mr Madhav’s tweet that asked why the Vice-President was not present at the landmark Yoga Day event on New Delhi’s Rajpath, the government cited protocol to say that the Vice-President could not be invited to an event where the PM was the chief guest after the V-P’s office made it clear that he had not been invited.

Mr Madhav had on Sunday questioned the V-P’s absence, but had to apologise later after he faced severe criticism on social media platforms. He also apologised later saying he had learnt Mr Ansari was unwell.
