Bhadrachalam water level rises

The Central Water Commission is anticipating the water level to go up to 42 feet before receding

Khammam: The water level in the Godavari river touched 41 feet at Bhadrachalam on Monday. The river is still rising with flood water from the Indravathi, Taliperu and Penganga flowing into it.

Sabari, another tributary of the Godavari that joins at Kunavaram, is also rising due to rains in Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

The Central Water Commission is anticipating the water level to go up to 42 feet before receding. The first warning will be announced if the level touches 43 feet at Bhadrachalam.

Officials opened 10 gates of the Kinnersani Project, releasing water into the Godavari. At Rajahmundry, the water level was recorded at 40.8 feet and officials released about 6.04 lakh cusecs from the Sir Arthur Cotton barrage into the sea on Monday.

Here too, officials expect the water level to rise before abating early on Tuesday. They ruled out any inundation of low lying areas.

In Khammam, the rains have eased and inflows in local tanks have also come down. Breaches were witnessed in 12 tanks in the ten mandals.

Roads were cut off due to the rain water at nine places in the district. District collector K. Ilambarithi said that property and assets damage to the government will be enumerated after rains recede.

Meanwhile, the IMD has advised fishermen from north coastal AP not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours.

Moderate to heavy rains were received by both states in the last 24 hours and the southwest monsoon remained active over Telangana.
