Vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyan gets Sangita Kalanidhi

The award will be conferred on Sanjay at the Sadas on January 1, 2016

Chennai: The Music Academy has selected renowned Carnatic vocalist Sanjay Subrahmanyan (47) for its coveted Sangita Kalanidhi award for 2015. He will preside over the academy’s 89th annual conference to be held between December 15, 2015 and January 1, 2016. The award will be conferred on Sanjay at the Sadas on January 1, 2016.

At the young age of 47, Sanjay joins the illustrious line of stalwarts who had received this coveted award before they turned 50 like Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, M.L. Vasanthakumari and M. Balamuralikrishna, said Mr N. Murali, president, The Music Academy. Sanjay, a chartered accountant by training, chose to become a full-time musician in 2000 and has made a name for himself in the classical music circuit.

The Sangita Kala Acharya awards will go to vocalist Mysore Nagamani Srinath and percussionist T.H. Subashchandran. Nadaswaram artiste Seshampatti Sivalingam and veena artiste Kamala
Aswathama will get the TTK awards. Gowri Kuppusamy has been selected for the musicologist award, while the Pappa Venkatramaiah award for violin will be given to M.S. Mani. Noted dancer Alarmel Valli will be presented the Natya Kala Acharya award during the inauguration of the dance festival on January 3, 2015.
