Five coaches of Kovai train derail near Basin Bridge yard

Incident took place when the rake was taken to the station during the early hours

Chennai: In the third such incident in as many days, five coaches of the Chennai-Coimbatore Shatabdi express train derailed at 6.15 am near Basin Bridge yard. The incident took place at Basin bridge maintenance yard when the rake was taken to the station during the early hours of the day.

Train No. 12243, bound to Coimbatore and was supposed to depart Central station at 7.15 am, left only at 11.15 am, running late by four hours. A southern railway press release said due to operational reasons, three trains services on June 21, six on June 22 and a train on June 23 have been cancelled.

The trains cancelled for June 21 are, Gorakhpur–Trivandrum express (12511), Trivandrum–Gorakhpur express (12512), Chennai Central–Jaipur express (12967). The trains cancelled for June 22 are GT, New Delhi–Chennai Central express (12616), Lucknow–Chennai Central express (16094), Indore–Trivandrum express (22645), Chennai Central–New Delhi express (12615), Yeswhantpur–Pataliputra express (22352), and Chapra– Chennai Central express (12670). The train cancelled for June 23 is Trivandrum-Gorakhpur Express (12512).
