Superstar Rajinikanth’s wife booked for cheating, forgery

The case of cheating and forgery has been registered at the Halsoorgate police station

Bengaluru: Superstar Rajinikanth’s wife Latha has been booked by the city police for allegedly forging a document on a letterhead and producing it before a court in Bengaluru to obtain an injunction order against the media on publishing and broadcasting any news reports concerning a financial dispute between her and a company, Ad Bureau.

“The case of cheating and forgery has been registered at the Halsoorgate police station and the investigation is under way,” a senior police officer said.

The police said that Abirchand Nahar, Managing Director, Ad Bureau, alleged in his complaint that the superstar’s wife had forged a letterhead of an organization, The Publishers and Broadcast Welfare Association of India, to obtain the injunction order in December last year against 79 media houses, both print and electronic, on publishing news about her financial dispute with Ad Bureau.

The dispute arose after Ad Bureau alleged that Ms Latha Rajinikanth sold the rights of the film, Kochadiyaan, in Tamil Nadu without the knowledge of the company, which had extended Rs 15 crore loan to her for post-production and release of the movie. She was offered the loan as she had signed as a guarantor. After the film’s release, however, Ad Bureau received only Rs 8.7 crore, while Rs 6.2 crore remained pending,. Ad Bureau later accused the actor’s family of defaming the company.
