Pakistan to organise T20 league in UAE next year

Islamabad: The Pakistan Cricket Board will organise its first ever professional Twenty20 league in the United Arab Emirates next year. PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said in a statement that the UAE has been chosen to host the league in order to "attract the maximum number of foreign players."

The PCB postponed a planned Pakistan Super League back in 2013 after complaints from investors over tight bidding deadlines and from players over scheduling conflicts.

Off late, there have been numerous T20 leagues cropping up, the latest being the Master’s Champions League. Reportedly, the league will see the likes of Wasim Akram, Brian Lara, Jacques Kallis and Adam Gilchrist on board.

Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will host the games, due to take place in February 2016. Six teams will form with squads of 15 for the inaugural tournament.

The news comes shortly after reports emerged that cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne are all set to launch a new T20 Legends cricket league for former international cricketers over a three-and-a-half-year period, and are set to take the sport to the United States. Los Angeles might probably host the first series in September.

Pakistan hosted Zimbabwe for three ODIs and two Twenty20s last month in the first visit by a Test-playing nation since gunmen attacked a Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009.
