Municipal corporation authorities intend to impose heavy fine on those who flout the norm

Rajahmundry: In a bid to impose ban on usage of plastic bags, glasses and other material to keep the city clean, the municipal corporation authorities intend to impose heavy fine on those who flout the norm. Municipal commissioner J. Murali told newsmen here on Tuesday that fine worth Rs 50,000 would be imposed on manufacturing units of plastic bags if they were caught for the first time and added that for the second offence, their licence would be cancelled and manufacturing equipment would be seized.
In case of vendors of plastic bags, fine ranging between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,500 would be imposed for first offence and if they repeat the same, their licence would be cancelled. Even if the consumers use plastic bags, fine ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 500 would be imposed.
The commissioner said th-at they were imposing ban on usage of plastic bags at hotels, restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, fruit shops and retail shops, liquor shops and retail and wholesale shops of provisions and at shopping complexes. The municipal commissioner appealed to the people and the buildings of multi-storyed apartments to stop construction activity from June 15 onwards until the completion of Godavari Pushkaralu on July 25 as construction debris and materials like sand, bricks and iron were being dumped on the road causing hardships to the commuters.
He said that the civic authorities would be taking up a drive to remove all such debris from the roads from June 20 onwards. He said that construction works related to only government would be taken up. He asked the traders not to encroach upon the foot-paths and road margins to place their items and carry out their business as such exercise was causing hardships to the people.
The municipal commissioner assured to ensure supply of purified water to the people and also to the devotees during the ensuing Godavari Pushkaralu as they were taking up cleaning of filter beds at head water works.
