Convict Perarivalan taken to hospital for treatment

A. G. Perarivalan is a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case
Chennai: The Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in the city turned into a fortress on Monday following the arrival of A. G. Perarivalan, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
The convict who had spent 23 years in prison was recently shifted from Vellore prison to the Puzhal jail following health complications. Flanked by armed police personnel, Perarivalan left the Puzhal prison around 9.20 am and reached the hospital around 10 am.
Hospital sources said he underwent medical tests to determine his illness related to urinary infection. Doctors said he underwent ultra sound, echocardiogram, blood and urine tests besides a culture (urine) sensitivity test. “It may take three days to get the results of culture sensitivity test and depending upon the results, we will decide the treatment options. If need arises, he may be brought here again,” doctors who attended on him said.
After the tests, Perarivalan was taken back to Puzhal jail. Based on the doctors’ opinion, we will decide whether he should be admitted to the hospital or treated as an out-patient, said a police officer.
