Ananya rules Hussainsagar waves

Young sailer finished with 11 points to claim the title

Hyderabad: Ananya Chauhan made the perfect use of the south-west winds to emerge a clear winner in the optimist fleet at the Hyderabad Watersports Regatta organised by the Telangana Sailing Association as a part of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations at the Hussainsagar in the city. Overnight showers had set up a pleasant morning for the participants as the winds continued to move strongly and the crowd were in for a thriller in cooler climes.

Ananya, who showed consistency in the earlier races, finished with 11 points to claim the title. Arun Pallam was second with 27 points. The battle for the third spot was a closely contested affair as both Gautham Kankala and Durga Prasad ended the event on 29 points. Gautham was declared the winner as he had two second spot finishes.

In Kayaking, K.N. Tiwari took gold in dominating fashion, Abhijit won silver and Raveen settled for bronze. Rama Pachare had an easy outing in Canoeing as he romped home with a comfortable margin to claim gold. Yogendra outclassed Randhir Singh to take silver. Earlier, Minister for Irrigation and Legislature Harish Rao took the salute at the row-past ceremony and flagged-off the races.
