Protest continues at Bala Vidya Mandir school

Less than 50 students out of the 1,400 student population attend classes

Chennai: For the second consecutive day, teachers and a large group of parents staged a protest in front of Bala Vidya Mandir School on Friday. Less than 50 students, out of the 1,400 student population, attended classes, which the newly-appointed principal, Sujata, said was taken by ‘other’ teachers. Though the school announced that it would cancel the contentious circular, regarding the differential fee structure, thereby abiding with the fee determination committee’s order, those present outside the school premises stated that unless the former principal, Srinivasa Raghavan, was reinstated and the trust that runs the school, Bala Brindavan Society, is changed, they would not relent.

Dismissing the formation of a new school management committee as a smokescreen, Gowtham, a lawyer as well as parent, claimed that family members of the managing trustee, Ramana Prasad, were in real control and should be kept out.

“When a registered body like the Bala Brindavan Society is not being administered properly and has a bearing on the segment of people that it serves, then a court case can be filed to replace those in charge and form a new committee. We will move a court injunction against any action taken by the society because the next step of theirs would be to target the protesting teachers,” he said.
