Five Independent candidates file nomination for RK Nagar by poll on Day 1

Candidates filed their nominations at the Tondiarpet corporation zonal office

Chennai: Five Independent candidates filed their papers on the first day of as the process of nominations for the Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly bypoll, scheduled for June 27, began on Wednesday.Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is to contest from the constituency. A statement from chief electoral officer Sandeep Saxena said five candidates, including K. Padmarajan (Independent), M. Ahamed Shahjahan (Independent), D. Ravi Paraiyanar of Republican Party of India, ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy (Independent) and R. Abraham Raj Mohan of People’s Party of India (Secular), filed their nominations.

All candidates filed their nominations before returning officer K. Sowrirajan at the Tondiarpet corporation zonal office. Candidates can file their nominations also at the district election office at Ripon Buildings.

At R.K. Nagar, AIAD MK top functionaries have started micro-managing campaign works. The party has already allotted the number of residents to be covered by the 50 functionaries appointed by the party. The party is now scheduling the campaign programme for its star campaigners, said a party senior. “We are eagerly waiting to see Ms Jayalalithaa and hoping for changes in our constituency as there are several issues pending,” said S. Shankar, an auto driver of Tondiarpet.
