At 'chai pe charcha' with Modi, Deve Gowda puts NICE in soup again!

It was a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Bengaluru: It was a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss issues pertaining to the nation and development but former Prime Minister Mr H.D. Deve Gowda did not forget to bring up his favourite subject-the Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project of NICE which he has been opposing all through.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle over the phone from New Delhi, Mr Gowda said he was was one of the two former prime ministers who are alive. “Mr Modi had spoken to former PM Dr Manmohan Singh last week and wanted to speak to me too. Since I was unwell then, I decided to call on him today,” he said.

Mr Gowda admitted that the NICE issue had also cropped up among the subjects discussed. “I had written a letter to him explaining the large scale irregularities and deviations in implementing the project. I urged the PM to order a CBI inquiry into irregularities committed so far. I also requested him to get a detailed audit of the land allotted for the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) project done through CAG so that the actual picture is revealed,” Mr Gowda said.

The JD(S) supremo said they also discussed how higher agricultural growth could be achieved and the controversial land acquisition ordinance.
