Bengaluru girl ends life over low marks in PU exam

Spoorthi was unhappy with her PU results as she had secured only 44 per cent marks

Bengaluru: Dejected over poor performance in PU exams, an 18-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Hanumantha Nagar police station limits on Tuesday evening.

Police have identified the deceased as Spoorthi Raj, daughter of A.C. Raj, a student of Mount Carmel College. She is survived by her parents and a younger sister. The incident took place at around 4.30 pm, while Spoorthi was alone at home.

It came to light when the domestic help came to her house. When there was no response despite repeated knocks, she peeped through the window and found her hanging. Spoorthi’s mother had gone to Majestic to pick up the younger daughter, while her father was away for work.

The domestic help immediately informed the neighbours who in turn informed Spoorthi’s parents. They rushed to the house and informed the police. During investigation, the parents told the police that Spoorthi was unhappy with her PU results as she had secured only 44 per cent marks.
