How i belled the cat: Akhil Vishal

With acceptance into three IIMs, Akhil Vishal shares a few tips on how he cracked CAT

After securing 93.4 per cent in CAT, Chinthalagattu Akhil Vishal was selected in three IIMs (IIM Udaipur, Kashipur and Trichy) at the age of 19. The MBA aspirant shares his experience of how he managed to bell the CAT.

“Scoring high in CAT is not easy. It needs a lot of hard work. Being good in Mathematics helped me crack the exam. I managed to score 98 per cent in the subject,” says Akhil. “I was weak in logical reasoning, but worked on it. Living in Sangareddy in Medak district, I had to spend a lot of time travelling. I read books while I travelled. I prepared for CAT during college hours. As a student of VNR VJIET, Bachupally, I got a lot of support from my college.

“The mock tests helped me prepare well for the exams. I would advise CAT aspirants to concentrate more on the mock tests. “There are two sections of the CAT paper — the first part is Quant and Data Interpretation and the second part deals with Logical Reasoning and Verbal. I managed to devote equal time for both. The coaching I got, also helped me prepare well.”

“I did not study for CAT round the year. Three months before the exam, I set my goal and after that I did not waste a minute. I put in at least eight hours each day. I concentrated more on Mathematics and worked on my weak points. I tried solving many question papers and that is how I managed to get high scores.”

“I do not like to study all the time. I was a member of the NSS and we conducted medical camps in villages. I like learning new things. I also teach C programming at a centre near my house. Two years in IIM is a platform to emerge as a better human being. I want to take admission in IIM, Trichy, and become an entrepreneur.
