FLO to train 200 women in transportation

Ficci women’s panel launches skill development initiative along with Telangana

Hyderabad: Ficci Ladies Organization (FLO) has launched a skill development initiative for women in the transportation sector “Women in Transport” initiative. The initiative will be taken up alongwith the government of Telangana and the Maruti Suzuki Driving School to empower women. The objectives of this initiative is to empower women with much valued skills to provide sustainable opportunities for their socio-economic growth and livelihood.

FLO Hyderabad chairperson, Rekha Lahoti announced the national initiative while addressing a press conference in the city. “We will train women as professional drivers for three and four wheeler vehicles. We will train them with driving lessons, driving license, communication skills and Etiquette to create a pool of Women Drivers. We target to train 1,500 women across the India. In Hyderabad, we will initially train 150 to 200 women and upscale it depending on the demand,” said Jyotsna Angara, National Committee head—Women in Transport Initiative. In the year 2006, the Indian car rental market was Rs 11,000crore which has attracted global rental majors.

Now Indian Car Rental Services market is valued anywhere between Rs 36,000 to Rs54,000 crore. Ficci FLO is preparing the women pool of drivers to meet this demand and plug the gaps, added Ms Jyotsna. Women in the age group of 18-35 are eligible to take part in this skill development training. Minimum qualification required is SSC. They should have a family income less than Rs3 lakhs.
