Kakinada: With the former Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana, all set to join the YSR Congress, there are speculations that some of his followers may also take the same step. But, the numbers are very few, as many of them feel that the decision to join the party is too premature as the elections are four years away. The new government has to complete four more years.
In Congress, even second rung leaders are not keen on going with Satyanarayana due to rivalry with local YSRC leaders. “We cannot join Satyanarayana as it will be benefiting only him, but not us,” said a former MLA. However, he said that they have to shift their loyalties with another party in future, as there will be no future for Congress in Andhra Pradesh.
The liquor lobby is behind Satyanarayana and is trying hard to attract many Congress leaders to join in YSRC along with Satyanarayana. When Botsa was the PCC president, a strong lobby including liquor trade was behind him and he had many followers. After bifurcation of the state, the leaders shifted their loyalties to other parties.
Many former MLAs such as Pantham Gan-dhi Mohan, Kurasala Kannababu, Vanga Githa, Ponnada Sathish, Rapaka Vara Prasad, Pamula Rajeswari and others lost their seats and they are neutral about not joining any other party. According to sources, the liquor lobby is contacting some former MLAs for the purpose. When the YSRC leaders held discussions with Satyanarayana a week back, he told YSRC district president Jyothula Nehru that some of the leaders may join him, sources said. Nehru also responded that he had no objection whoever joins with YSRC along with Satyanarayana.
“I will not object anybody who wants to join YSRC. I want to develop my party,” said Nehru. Meanwhile, the followers of Satyanarayana in Kakinada are in dilemma whether to go with Satyanarayana, or not, as they have rivalry with former MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy. “I can’t join YSRC at this moment,” said the PCC secretary Pantham Nanaji. He said that he would continue with Congress.
