Indian Consulate in Milan refuses to help two Karnataka women

The mother and daughter duo had gone to Milan to attend a conference on handicrafts

Belagavi: A mother and daughter duo from Vijayapura, who had gone to Milan to attend a conference on handicrafts last week, were traumatised after the Indian Consulate in Milan refused to come to their rescue.

Their family members said that Mallamma Yalawar and her daughter Tejaswini lost their passports and cash bags on their way to the airport after attending the conference in Milan two days ago. The harried women approached the Indian Consulate on May 29, but could not find any official. The two, however, managed to contact officials of the consulate, but were shocked by the response.

Even after knowing that the two did not have any money or credit cards with them, the consulate officials demanded money to issue them new passports. The officials were callous. The plight of these two women, who were like beggars without a penny on them, did not move the officials at all.

The two somehow managed to arrange for the money and got the passports done. They flew back to India on Monday. The two women entrepreneurs run their handicrafts business in Vijayapura. They had gone to Milan to learn more about techniques of handicraft making.
