GMC to spruce up Guntur

The civic body started beautification and expansion works in the city
GUNTUR: The Guntur Municipal Corporation is putting efforts to transform Guntur into a smart city by removing the illegal statues and religious structures. Under the smart city concept, the civic body started beautification and expansion works in the city and regarding this, it has issued notices to the residents and societies to remove the statues along the roads.
The GMC has identified 170 statues of famous personalities including Mahatma Gandhi, former president of India Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and other eminent personalities like B.R. Ambedkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, former chief ministers N.T. Rama Rao, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
Meanwhile, planning officer A. Ravindra said they have already started the removal of illegal statues located along the roads and public places in the city and would at no cost leave any statue if it has been identified for removal.
