May 22 was hottest in 50 years at 44.3 degree celsius

Minimum temperatures here have also been above normal by 2°C to 4°C

Hyderabad: This May was one of hottest that Hyderabad has witnessed. At 44.3ºC, May 22 was not only the hottest day of the season, but the hottest in nearly five decades. Sunday too was a scorcher with the mercury reading 42.5ºC.

A look through temperatures recorded during the past few years on May 31 reveals that it increased from 37.8ºC in 2011 to 41.6ºC in 2014.

Experts across the world have been claiming that climate change is a reality and recently, the Center for Science and Environment, New Delhi, also said that climate change was a possible cause behind the ongoing heatwave across the country.

Heatwave conditions continued to prevail across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

About 40 more people lost their lives due to the heat wave in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, taking the death toll to 1,677. However, no deaths were reported from Telangana. The Met department has warned that the heat wave will continue on Monday too in Telangana. Minimum temperatures have also been above normal by 2°C to 4°C in Telangana.

Heatwave warnings have been released for the districts of Adilabad, Ranga Reddy, Warangal, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Karimnagar in Telangana.

The maximum temperature in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was 47ºC on Sunday at Hamankonda in TS and Jangamaheshwarapuram in AP. However, isolated rainfall occurred in both states on Sunday.
