Chennai: It’s official. The ruling AIADMK on Friday declared that Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa would contest the Radhakrishnan Nagar assembly constituency seat in Chennai. A statement from AIADMK headquarters announced that the party politbureau, which met on May 27 had collectively decided to field J. Jayalalithaa as the party’s official candidate.
For over a week now, ruling party cadres have been particularly enthused about the political scene on their home turf after the news emerged of the resignation of party MLA P Vettrivel from the constituency, making way for the party supremo to regain her seat in the Tamil Nadu assembly. They are all pepped up for the bypoll scheduled on June 27.
With AIADMK declaring Jayalalithaa as the RK Nagar candidate, party seniors are now beginning to believe that the government would run its full course till May 2016 and that there would be no snap general elections.
