Kochi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday came to the defence of the fishermen by launching a scathing attack on the policies announced by the Modi government in the marine fisheries sector.
“The government, plotting to usurp the land of the farmers, is also trying to sell off the ocean wealth to the rich and the powerful ignoring the interests of the fisher folk,” he said.
Addressing a meeting at Chavakkad, a coastal hamlet in Thrissur district, Mr Rahul said, “farmers treat land as their mother and the present government is trying to wean away the mother from her children.” The government was trying to do a similar thing to the fisher folk by usurping their rights for sea wealth.
