TNAU college NSS cadets organise special camp

COIMBATORE: A special camp of the National Service Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University was inaugurated at Sokkanur Panchayat near Kinathukadavu in which as many as 336 volunteers - 243 girls and 93 boys - are participating along with their programme officers.
In the morning session, the adopted villages were surveyed by the volunteers for map preparation. They also distributed brochures and created awareness about the camp. Around 100 farmers participated in this campaign.
“India lives in the villages and only when the villages are self-sufficient and flourishing will the country prosper,” said Dr S. Mahimairaja, dean of agriculture department in TNAU. He added that there must be all round development in the village, including veterinary health, health and hygiene of the people and also the welfare of the society and stressed that the students must dedicate themselves according to the motto of NSS 'not me, but you'.
During the morning session of the second day NSS volunteers cleaned the school and temple premises in the adopted villages and also along the roadside. The volunteers undertook a rally based on 'Environmental Awareness' in the evening. Various games such as balloon bursting, lemon and spoon, lucky corner and musical chair were conducted for children and women.
A seminar on 'Uses of microbes' was organised by the students. Dr R. Mahesh Prabhu, NSS coordinator of Karunya University gave a special note on skills development of students in today's context.
