Telangana to build 2BHK for homeless from June 2

The Cabinet has decided to award tenders for constructing houses through open bidding process

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet on Tuesday approved a major sop for the homeless poor in the state. It has decided to launch the construction of 2BHK houses for them to coincide with the first anniversary of TS Formation Day on June 2.

The 2BHK housing scheme — a major poll promise of the TRS — will be launched in selected mandals in all the Assembly constituencies. The 2BHK houses will have a built up area of about 570 sq.ft, including a toilet.

The beneficiaries will be selected by district collectors based on the household survey conducted by the TS government in August last year. The government has estimated the expenditure for each 2BHK house at nearly Rs 9 lakh in cities and Rs 7 lakh in semi-urban and rural areas.

The Cabinet has decided to award tenders for constructing houses through open bidding process. It was decided to postpone the launch of the new industrial approval policy, called TS-iPASS, from June 7 to June 12 as some industry bigwigs invited by the government conveyed that they could not make it on June 7 due to prior engagements.

The meeting chaired by Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao went on for nearly three hours in the Secretariat. There was no official briefing by the government on the cabinet decision.

Though the meet was expected to announce a few more sops to benefit different sections of the people like job notifications for students etc, they were put on hold since the procedural hurdles on this are yet to be overcome.

It was decided to celebrate Formation Day for a week from June 2 to 8 in a grand scale across the state. All the ministers were asked to take part in the celebrations along with collectors in their respective districts and ensure a ‘festive atmosphere’ for a week by conducting cultural programmes every day.

The cabinet also approved setting up of new power plants, MoUs entered with BHEL to set up power plants and solar power policy. On the political front, Mr Rao is said to have expressed confidence that the TRS would win the fifth MLC seat as well and decided to hold a legislature party meeting on May 29 to devise the strategy to be adopted in the MLC polls.
