Kozhikode city road project launch in September

The scheme will cover six road projects with a total length of 22.25 km

KOCHI: The much-delayed Kozhikode city road development project will be launched in the first week of September, Public Works Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju told reporters here on Tuesday.

The project modelled after the Thiruvananthapuram city road development scheme will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 177.22 crore. The scheme will cover six road projects with a total length of 22.25 km.

The roads to be included in the project are Stadium-Puthiyara, Karaparambu-Kalluth-ankadavu, Vellima-dukunnu-Kovoor Road, Gandhi Road-Mini Bypass, Kuniyilkavu-Mavoor Road, Panthur-thazham-CWRDM, Pushpa Junction- Mankav. A contract will be signed with Ural-ungual Labour Contract Society for the purpose in June, Mr Kunju said.

The work on the long-pending Mahe-Thalassery bypass will begin soon. “We are now waiting for the formal clearance of the Union ministry of surface transport,” Mr Kunju said. The bypass will be constructed using the fund from the state government, he added.

The first phase of the 18-km bypass will comprise 12 km linking Muzhuppilangad and Naluthara, he said. The cost is estimated at '390 crore. The two-lane bypass road will have three major bridges and eight underpasses.
