‘Had a tough time dancing’

Prabhu Deva talks about the difficult steps in of ABCD2

If the Swedish group ABBA were to see our Prabhu Deva dancing, they would happily change their iconic song Dancing Queen to Dancing King. But surprisingly Prabhu Deva himself says that he had a tough time with the steps that his choreographer colleague Remo D’Souza gave him for the upcoming film ABCD2.

“Those steps are meant for athletes and definitely for dancers far younger than me. But you have to see how good Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor are with Remo’s intricate steps. Varun and Shraddha have worked really hard on their dancing. These kids know they have to be as close to perfection as they can get,” says Prabhu Deva, who has faced the camera for the first time since ABCD released two years ago.

Adds Prabhu, “Dancing and choreography are my main passion. In fact they’re much more than a passion. They’re the reason I live. After that comes direction, and then acting. Facing the camera for ABCD2 was a challenge because there was lots of dancing and lots of drama.”

Prabhu says he’s excited as ABCD2 is his first film in 3D. “I’ve done a song in 3D for a film. But that’s it. ABCD2 is my first full-length 3D film. It is, therefore, fun and challenging.”

Though it’s hard to believe, Prabhu says he has in no way contributed to the dancing or direction of ABCD2. “That’s the way it is every time I face the camera. Whether it is dancing or emoting, in ABCD2 I’ve done exactly what Remo told me. I have contributed nothing to the film’s choreography or direction.” Prabhu plays the same character as in ABCD. “I am again a dance teacher named Vishnu. But my character is in a different situation here.”
