Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Tuesday held a meeting with MPs, MLAs, MLCs and public representatives from here to discuss ways to improve drinking water supply, sewerage, electricity supply and other civic issues.
According to a release issued here by the Telangana Chief Minister's office, the meeting was a follow-up to the 'Swachh Hyderabad' campaign organised by the Telangana state government earlier this month.
Secunderabad Lok Sabha member Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya also attended the meeting, the release stated.
Speaking at the meeting, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that the drainage as well as garbage removal systems in the city needed improvement, adding that the problem of low electrical voltage prevailed in the old city, the release stated.
Public representatives gave their inputs on civic issues and it was decided that methods of waste management followed in Delhi and Nagpur would be studied, it said.
They said that city residents require 602 MGD of water, but only 385 MGD is available, besides merely 14 lakh families out of 20 lakh households in the city get drinking water supply through pipelines, the release stated.
Rao directed officials to draft proposals to ensure that all residents get piped drinking water and the drainage system is improved. He has decided to appoint a committee comprising senior MLAs to study the management of drinking water and drainage systems in the city.
He sought a report from officials about drainage systems, which are either in a bad shape or encroached upon at different places in the city, the release stated.
It was also decided at the meeting to appoint separate committees vis-a-vis different civic bodies in the city.
Dattatreya assured that the Centre would support the development of Hyderabad, the release said.
