Swachh Hyderabad programme skips Secunderabad Cantonment Board area

Swachh Hyderabad for SCB was limited to a few roads swept and garbage cleared

Hyderabad: The five-day long Swachh Hyderabad programme had an effect only in Greater Hyderabad. However, there was no sign of improvement in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board area. Earlier, certain wards in SCB were allotted to GHMC for the programme. However, due to delay in granting permission, the SCB handled its own wards. SCB is still miserable when it comes to providing civic facilities.

The Swachh Hyderabad for SCB was limited to a few roads swept and garbage cleared. No major works were taken up or new works proposed since the board is awaiting the funds promised by the government.

The in-charge of SCB Swachh Hyderabad said, “The cleanliness drive is on. The SCB received a letter from the government about the programme. However, since then there is no further communication from the government. The board was informed that Rs 3-4 crore will be sanctioned but no funds were received. The board started the programme one day late. The focus is on debris removal, open drains and road works. The SCB has been divided into 17 units. Initial works are being carried out with our funds. Earlier, the SCB spent Rs 25 lakh on Swachh Bharat. Since a week daily 100 trips carrying waste are being made. We have engaged 15 vehicles and 4 JCBs to remove debris.”
