Bear the heat till monsoon

This year’s prolonged heatwave spell has even stumped the meteorologists

Hyderabad: The heatwave-related death toll, as per official sources, reached 333 in Andhra Pradesh and touched the 199-mark in Telangana this year till Monday.

Meanwhile, the IMD forecast of maximum temperatures for the next one week shows that temperatures might not fall below 42ºC in most of the places in the two Telugu states. While the temperatures in Telangana seem to have dropped slightly, the heatwave warning stays in place for Tuesday as well.

The severe heatwave condition in Coastal Andhra Pradesh also continues. Tuni on Sunday recorded 47.2ºC, the second highest temperature in the country.

IMD sources said that following the heatwave, an extremely dry weather condition may prevail in the two states. This year’s prolonged heatwave spell has even stumped the meteorologists.

“There might not be any delay in the normal onset of Monsoon this year. However, there won’t be any drastic drop in temperature till the onset of Monsoon in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana,” said Narasimha Rao, assistant meteorologist, IMD.
