Thanjavur gets 4 Amma Canteens

Jayalalithaa launches them through videoconference from Chennai

Thanjavur: ‘Amma Unavagams (Amma canteens)’ have come to stay in Thanjavur district. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa inaugurated two ‘unavagams’ one near Thilakar thidal and another near Medical college here , and one each at Kumbakonam and Pattukottai through videoconferencing from Chennai on Sunday. At Thanjavur, after the Chief Minister inaugurated the ‘unavagams’,

N. Subbaiyan, District Collector distributed sweet rice (Sakkarai Pongal) and sundal to people to mark the inauguration. The AIADMK cadre, in a celebratory mood, burst crackers here.
The canteens will serve people idli, pongal and sambar from 7 a.m to 9 a.m. and sambar rice and curd rice from 12 noon to three p.m. daily at a reasonable rate.“The aim is to supply quality food to poor people at an affordable price,” the collector said.

K.Parasuraman, Thanjavur MP, M. Rangasamy, Thanjavur MLA, Savithiri Gopal, Mayor of Thanjavur City Corporation, and M.Rathnasamy, Thiruvaiyaru MLA were present at the inaugural.
