THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The family of G. Mohan Kumar in Thiruvananthapuram were elated at his appointment as the defence secretary.
Son of M. Gopinathan Nair, former professor of NSS College here, and Saradamma of Uppalam road near Statue Junction, Mohan Kumar studied at Government Model School during the 1960s, did his pre-degree at Arts College and BSc in Chemistry at University College.
He was selected in the civil services while doing his MSc. Initially, he was selected in the IPS and in his next attempt, he was selected in the IAS cadre in 1979 and was allotted Odisha cadre.
“My brother called me and conveyed the news of his new assignment and the family is obviously delighted at the key respo-nsibility entrusted upon him,” his younger brother and filmmaker G. Suresh Kumar told DC.
