Telangana staff ‘threaten’ to bring Rahul Gandhi to state

Some associations are planning to meet Mr Gandhi in New Delhi soon

Hyderabad: Telangana employees are planning to use the ‘Rahul Gandhi weapon’ against the TRS government to highlight the ‘injustice’ being meted to them in bifurcation of staff between Telangana and AP.

The recent padayatra undertaken by Mr Gandhi in the state to console families of farmers who committed suicides had attracted national attention and TS staff want to use the same ‘Rahul’ weapon to bring pressure on the TRS government to ensure that all only TS-native employees are allotted to the state.

Some associations are planning to meet Mr Gandhi in New Delhi soon and invite him to the state in June to take up their cause. Various TS employee associations have indicated their plans of bringing Mr Gandhi to the state to take up employee issues at their meeting held on May 17 in the city.

“Come to our rescue immediately. Don’t push us into a situation where we will be forced to approach Rahul Gandhi to fight for our cause,” they warned the government.

The associations are angry with the government for adopting the role of a ‘spectator’ despite TS staff getting a raw deal in the division of employees.

They pointed out that the TRS which adopted an aggressive stand in favour of Telangana employees soon after coming to power in June 2014 by setting up a “war room” in TRS

Bhavan to identify Seemandhra-native staff working in TS, softened its stand as months passed by and did not even lodge a protest or objection at the committee about the injustice meted out to TS employees.

“As employees, we rallied behind TRS in general elections last year with a hope that they will stand like a rock in support of us at every stage. But unfortunately, after forming the government, they softened their stand and confined to the role of a spectator,” said an employee leader.

The associations have decided to wait till June 2, the first anniversary of TS Formation Day, and see whether the government will do anything to protect their interests and if not, they would proceed with their future course of action.
