Wardrobe for wedding

Dressing in jeans and a shirt is too casual for a wedding
Hdyerabad: There used to be a time when men would have a set wardrobe just for weddings. And more often than not, these would be their very best clothes. But times are changing, and it’s not all for the better, say stylists.
Manchu Manoj’s wedding this week saw a few celebs and VIPs — not the women of course, who were resplendent as always — who did not seem to have taken any effort at all to “dress up”. There was Pawan Kalyan, in a pale blue kurta, Prabhas wearing a ‘pant-shirt’ look that he shared with politician Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy — all stood apart for their extremely casual attire.
In direct contrast are the two CMs, Chandrababu Naidu and K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who actually always turn up looking smart in starched and ironed clothes, despite their very hectic schedules (which is often an excuse many use to explain their crumpled look).
But it really doesn’t take much effort to dress right for weddings, one only has to be a bit conscientious, given the solemn nature of the occasion.
“I’ve noticed that the groom’s close friends dress well but most of the other men don’t bother much,” says celeb stylist Indrakshi Ria Pattanaik.
“Some look so casual that it doesn’t seem like they are attending a wedding. Most men are not conscious about dressing the right way.” Indrakshi also suggests one needn’t go overboard and there’s really no need to go looking for something exotic.
Dhanush’s look is perfect for a wedding
“Wear simple kurtas and dhoti pants or a pancha… wedding wear is available in plenty. Jeans and a shirt however, is too casual for a wedding, so please try to avoid that look,” she adds.
You really can’t turn up in chappals to a wedding...a mistake many actors and politicians make. For shoes, men can wear ankle high brogues and avoid chappals, unless they are wearing Indian. “Also, instead of wearing black shoes, you can opt for dark brown, they are easy on the eyes,” says Indrakshi.
Stylist and fashion blogger Masoom Minawala adds, “If you’re going in for a traditional look, men can opt for the Indian sandals, they make the look very classy.” And youngsters can always opt for Jodhpuri pants, dhoti pants, bandhgalas etc. For a more simple and age-appropriate look, “Men can wear a churidhar and kurta with a waistcoat. It is a simple look that’s classy and wedding appropriate,” adds Masoom.
With the temperatures rising, both Masoom and Indrakshi suggest that men should go in for lighter colours. “White is a great option and if you want to go for a complete white look, don’t forget to break the pattern with a strong coloured waistcoat or an accessory like a scarf. The overall look will be classy and you can stay cool in the heat,” says Indrakshi. Masoom adds, “Shades of light blue and emerald green too can be experimented with.”
