Nitin Gadkari: Will quit, if charges proved

“I am ready to quit not only from the ministership but also as an MP,” said Mr Gadkari
New Delhi: Coming under attack from the Opposition over alleged corruption, Union minister Nitin Gadkari asserted in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that he had done no wrong, and was ready to quit as a minister and as an MP if charges of corruption against him were found correct.
“If it is proved in any court that I have done corruption worth even one rupee, I am ready to quit not only from the ministership but also as an MP,” he said. His response followed questions over the CAG report which allegedly pointed to irregularities in loans to the Purti Group, linked to his family.
“No favour was done to us. There is no allegation of corruption against me in the CAG report. The CAG report is being distorted and people are being misled for political opportunism,” said Mr Gadkari.
The Congress has been stalling the Rajya Sabha for the last three days by demanding his resignation over the allegations. The House was adjourned repeatedly Tuesday as well as the Congress insisted on a probe into the findings of the CAG report.
