Watch: Here's how incredible effects were created for 'Bombay Velvet'

Several years of research and post-production went into bringing the film to life

Mumbai: Eight years of research and writing, one year of pre-production, ten months of making the sets, twenty five kilos of costumes and thirteen months dedicated to edit and post-production, that sums up the time and efforts invested in bringing 'Bombay Velvet' to life.

VFX and technological enhancements have become an integral part of film making. With every passing success, directors are experimenting and heavily relying on the bold techniques bringing their imagination to screen.

We will be able to see for ourselves that levels of innovation in visual effects showcased in 'Bombay Velvet' are as high as ever. As this perfect storm of VFX approaches, we bring you a compilation of pictures, just to whet your imagination for what is to come.

In addition to creating the old city of Bombay in Sri Lanka, the VFX team was responsible for simulating atmospheric effects, contributing to numerous sequences of the vintage automobiles. We bet you remember the lavish opening shot of old Bombay in the trailer but sadly below all that fancy packaging, lies a very ordinary and unappealing film.

After several years of research, minute details were taken into consideration to build the sets. The combination of VFX and live shoot is so smooth that one would be forced to believe that such a place and people do exist in the real world. If you think you are the only one baffled with the set creation, lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma were taken aback when they walked in at the first day of shoot.

Lo and Behold! The final creation is something that will definitely leave you spellbound. This film is such a milestone in terms of VFX, it's impossible to ignore. The movie has arguably done more than any other to create the VFX-heavy tentpole.

All this was powered by one's man dream- Anurag Kashyap. This sequence of Anurag explaining the perspective of 'Bombay Velvet' structure with utensils as his props, was secretly filmed by Vikas Bahl.
